My White noise experience

I think this project was very funny as well as interesting because we all (students) got to take quotes out of the book and ask other students and faculty members what there interpretations or opignions of the quotes were. Although some reactions were doused with confusion and bliss some interpritations gave new meaning and perspective to the quote I used. This outer perspective of people who did not read the book gave me a more out of context but meaningfull analysis of the words. I felt asthough those students who did read the book were less likly to be as open to interpritation of the quote but equally ready to share their ideas.

Everyone I interviewed was so confused by my quote that I had to help them come up with something to say for the camera. It was funny to see people's confused expressions at first, but intriguing to hear their in-depth analysis after they came to understand it a bit more. Seeing so many different perspectives of the quote, it made me appreciate the writing of Don Delilo.

I think the most interesting part was how the answers were different depending on the age of the person. The Freshmen and Sophomores had no idea what to say. When i talked to other seniors and juniors as well as faculty members, there responses were much more in depth and knew what they were talking about.

I think the idea of the "outer perspective" on the book is something DeLillo would really like. Maybe the book and people who read it are just one level of the book, and another, broader level, is made up of all the people who didn't read it.

I noticed that freshmen and sophomores were more camera-shy than the upper classmen. I found myself giving them suggestions to help coerce a response. However, I think that wearing white shirts with the quotes was a great way to raise awareness of the event because a lot of people approached me and said "why is everyone wearing shirts with quotes". Also, asking people to interpret the quotes on the spot was good because they had to think outside the box and step out of their usual comfort zone
